$18.6 million digital training grants available to small businesses.

A further $18.6 million has been assigned by the federal government to help boost the digital capability of small businesses around Australia. The program will provide SMEs with an understanding of e-commerce, social media strategy, and cybersecurity.

The goal of this grant is to provide businesses with affordable, accessible advice for those who are looking to further their digital appearance. Service providers who are successful will guide SMEs on how they can digitise their operations, online sales, social media strategy, business software competency, and key cybersecurity protocols.

Funding for the digital grant will be spread across three coverage areas over four years.

  • $6.51 million for Area 1 - New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory
  • $5.58 million for area 2 – Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia
  • $6.51 million for Area 3 – South Australia, Victoria, and Tasmania

The grant will provide support to service providers which will allow them to offer low cost, high quality advisory services on digitalisation to Australian Small businesses, across 5 priority capabilities including:

  • Digitalising your business
  • Websites and selling online
  • Social media and digital marketing
  • Using small business software
  • Online security and data privacy

Eligibility

Eligible projects must provide digital advisory services between 1 April 2023 and 31 March 2026.

Your project must:

  • Be located in Australia
  • Provide advisory services on digitalisation to small businesses in the selected coverage area.

In order for your activities to be eligible, you will need to ensure it is additional to any ongoing business as usual small business advisory activities you do.

Eligible activities may include:

  • Development of content
  • Development of communication channels
  • Promotional activities to drive small business participation in the program
  • Delivery of digital advisory services (in person, phone, email, webchat, interactive webchat, interactive webinars, workshops, and tutorials)
  • Development of client surveys to seek feedback on provided advisory services
  • Referral to other business advisory services

How to apply

Applications for the grant will open on the 19th of September 2022. Once the online forms have opened, you will need to make sure you submit your application through the online portal.
