On Saturday 24th October Morris Finance proudly supported the Morris Finance Ivermee 58 team who participated in the Ride to Conquer Cancer raising valuable funds for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
The team of 5 including Rick Pringle, Jason Pringle, Jordie Lindstorm, Jace Lindstorm and Jake Spencer managed to raise a grand total of $15,000 for the Peter MacCullum Cancer Centre. The guys were very pleased with their efforts having raised the money in memory of their dear friend Aaron Ivermee who passed away late December in 2014 at the age of 30 to melanoma cancer.
The Morris Finance Ivermee 58 team began their ride in Essendon at 6.30 am, riding then to the starting point for opening ceremonies and departures. Their journey began at 8.15 am in the third wave of 840 riders. The ride took them down to Mornington Peninsula, out to Hasting and back to Mornington on day one, completing approximately 120 kms. Here they would stay overnight and rest up for another big day on the Sunday.
Day 2 provided another early start, with a 6.30 am departure. It was an extremely chilly Melbourne morning, the temperature as little as 4 degrees, with plenty of fog. It was important for the Ivermee 58 team to get off pedalling early, as fatigue was setting in and high winds were expected later in the day. After some steep inclines, 700 meters of climbing and a quick stop for lunch the boys were in Mordialloc. The team completed the ride by 11 am and were in the first 20 or so, bikes to cross the line.
Funds raised through the Ride to Conquer Cancer support vital cancer research at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and provide specialised technologies required to carry out this life-saving work. Peter Mac is Australia’s only public hospital solely dedicated to cancer, and home to Australia’s largest cancer research group.
Overall it was a very successful event and experience for all involved, and a great way to honour Aaron and keep his memory alive.
