Racing E-series keeping the season alive

As the COVID-19 situation continues to unfold around the world and bring 2020 sporting events to a screaming halt, The Virgin Australia Supercars Championship are taking things down a different track.

The full cast of V8 Supercars stars, including Walkinshaw Andretti United’s (WAU) Chaz Mostert and Bryce Fullwood will be gearing up for the 10 round Supercars E-series taking place from April 8th through to June 10th, 2020.

Sim racing has come to the fore front with little live sport on offer around the world, with Formula 1, MotoGP and IndyCar, among others, all starting online championships to create new content for fans.

The virtual series will broadcast on Fox Sports and Kayo and will be available via live stream across Twitch and Supercars various digital channels. Each round will be played on the world’s premium sim racing platform, iRacing and will take place on various racetracks from around the globe. A total of 18 different tracks are planned to be used across the season’s 10 rounds, with Bathurst’s Mount Panorama the only destination set for two visits. All up, the virtual championship will head to four continents and nine countries.

WAU team owner Ryan Walkinshaw has thrown his full support behind the Eseries, saying “Through the Eseries, we’ve got an incredible opportunity to continue to compete and entertain, on an authentic, relevant platform, in a way that’s accessible to the public. You’ll still see Chaz in the Mobil 1™ Appliances Online No. 25, Bryce will still be in the Mobil 1 Middy’s Racing No. 2, battling it out with the same names and faces.”

“It’s a great way to stay visible, give the fans something to watch, and importantly, continue to help our fantastic partner group.”

“All the drivers have been joking about just having some, fun but the more practice I do, the more serious I’m starting to take it,” Mostert explained.

“The characteristics of the car and the model that is in the sim is actually pretty close, the same characteristics of what the Supercar is in real life.

“It’s going to be tough to race, a lot of mistakes, a lot of brake locking, a lot of cars running off track.

“Hopefully we can give our teams some success in the virtual world.”

Despite these unprecedented circumstances, WAU are taking this opportunity to allow fans to engage with the team on a different level. From driver Q&A’s to podcasts and sharing favourite racing memories, fans can prepare for a very unusual, but entertaining start to the 2020 season.

Competition for the Supercars All-Star Eseries Round 1 will begin on Wednesday April 8th racing at the Phillip Island and Monza circuits.
