Nick Percat Winton SuperSprint Preview

Hey everyone,

This weekend we head up to Winton motor raceway, which is always a fun weekend as its one where the spectators can camp at the circuit. Winton always has a good old school racing feel about it. Between the camping race fans and the action-packed rural circuit its one event that can throw many challenges at the teams.

The circuit is small but also very challenging. Its tight and twisty with no room for error. One of the big challenges of the Winton layout is qualifying. It can be very hard to get enough tyre temperature to get the optimum grip out of the Dunlop tyres. The other challenge is gaining an advantage over the other teams as it is the official test track for all the Victorian teams, we have all done so many laps there it makes the racing extremely tight.

This weekend we run on the Super soft Dunlop tyres which will be fun from the driver’s seat. Winton has a high grip surface but a decent amount of tyre degradation in the races. So not always is a fast-qualifying car going to be fast across the whole race length

For everyone at WAU we are excited to get back to the racetrack and put Perth behind us, we want to show everyone that we can bounce back and get strong results. Since Perth majority of the Victorian teams tested at Winton. We used out test day to understand what went wrong in Perth and how we can combat the issues we had.

I am looking forward to pushing hard and getting a solid bank of points this weekend, I feel it’s been a weird start to the championship for myself, but I am hoping Winton is the start of a positive run on the car 2 side.

Again, this weekend we have 3 races across the 2-day event. We have the knockout style qualifying sessions and sprint races. I am hoping we have gained good direction from the test day, and we roll the cars out the truck in a good spot. The difficult thing with a 2-day event. If you are outside the setup window on Saturday morning it is very hard to recover!

As usual you can tune into the coverage on Fox Sports 506 and catch up with how I am going across my social media pages!

Cheers Nick
