Nick Percat The Bend SuperSprint Preview
This weekend we head to Tailem Bend in South Australia. The newest purpose-built circuit in the Country with amazing facilities with the fans to enjoy. It’s always fun heading to “The Bend” to check out what new car they have in the reception of the hotel / pit building. For the lucky guests who are fortunate enough to stay at the circuit it’s a pretty cool experience waking up in pit lane with an amazing view of the circuit.
We are back to the sprint format this weekend across two action packed days. These weekends are tricky to get right and quiet challenging on the crews with such tight turn arounds between sessions. How the car rolls out the truck Saturday is extremely important. If the setup is close, you’re in for a good weekend... if the base setup is outside the window, you need it, it can be very hard to recover.
We have the normal 2 practice sessions, 1 qualifying and 1 race on Saturday. Followed by 2 qualifying sessions and 2 races on Sunday. So far, the weather looks a bit dicey, and we could get some rain to really spice things up!
Since the last round I have moved home to Melbourne. This was a tough decision to make as I absolutely loved living on the Gold Coast, but it makes more sense to be living close to the team especially coming into the Gen3 era. For the team it means I’ll be around more to annoy them, and Nelson will be lurking around the workshop often!
Since Townsville I think we started to make some ground on where I need the car, qualifying is still the weak part and is making our lives very difficult. The race pace has been decent but obviously starting in a poor position doesn’t help. This weekend I am hoping to improve us
qualifying and race at the front from lap 1 rather than having to pass 15 cars to get there.
The bend is a circuit I enjoy, and I always get fantastic support being a South Australian! So hopefully I can stand on the podium at one of my home races!
Some pretty cool news is that I get to have a drive of the Gen3 Ford Mustang on Monday at The Bend, this will be my first drive of the Gen3 car, and I can’t wait to see what it’s all about!
As usual, tune into Fox sport 506 or follow my social media to see how it’s all going!
