It’s the first time in over 40 years that the series has had two championship rounds in SA in one season, so it’s pretty special to be part of history.
I haven’t raced at The Bend yet, but I’ve been there and had a look at the circuit and facilities. It’s a very impressive joint. The team at The Bend have put a lot of time, effort and money into it, so hopefully the fans enjoy going there and watching the action. I believe that from the top of the pit building you can see almost the entire track, so that’s pretty cool.
We are racing on the International Circuit, which is the shorter 4.95km layout amongst the various circuit options. This new track has plenty of run off, so it doesn’t matter too much if you run wide. This is the complete opposite to the last new track we raced on in Newcastle, where there was absolutely no room for error!
We can push the cars straight away, with minimal risk, which will be ideal while learning the limits of the new track. There should be lots of opportunities for passing and side-by-side racing, especially along that 1-kilometre front straight and getting a tow into turn one.
We are back on the hard tyre this weekend. It’s been a while since we’ve run this harder compound, but I think the BJR cars react well to it. We recently had a test day at Winton, and the team think they might have found a few tuning tools to get the car into the window a bit easier each weekend.
So far this season I’ve had 12 top-ten race finishes and I’m sitting just outside the top 10 in the points standings. My goal for the weekend is to head into the endurance season in the championship top 10.
Finally, if you’re heading out to the track make sure you come and say hi and check out Car 8’s awesome new X-Convenience- Mobil Racing livery. It’s already had a great reaction on social media, but in the flesh it really stands out.
I’m a massive fan of the old school livery in the Mobil HRT era, so it’s a cool deal to be able to represent a similar look in my home state this weekend!
Remember, you can follow me on social media for updates across the event.
