Nick Percat Sandown 500 Preview

This weekend’s Sandown 500 marks the official start of the Supercars ‘Season of Endurance’, or as I prefer to call it “you have to share your toys with someone else for the next 4 races.”

All the regular drivers partner up with a co-driver for the Sandown, Bathurst and Gold Coast events. Letting another driver behind the wheel of your car is a bit like watching another guy take your girlfriend out on a date!

My co-driver in car 8 again this year is Macauley Jones, and we always work well together. He’s done some of the co-driver practice sessions this year, and he’s also competed in two events as a wildcard in the main game.

But seriously, there are a few fun things about the endurance races. It’s like a mini-championship, and everyone lifts to a new level when the enduros come around. It’s also great to see some new faces and some old friends around the pits.

I get to celebrate my 30th birthday on Friday by driving a Supercar- talk about living the dream!

I’m looking forward to the first 500km enduro. I enjoy this track, even though I’ve had a tough run at Sandown in previous years. I feel like I’ve always had the pace, but the results have never really quite worked out the way we hoped. Last year we had a mechanical issue while running in the top 6, which was disappointing. My best result was actually when I paired with Garth Tander back in 2012.

It’s surprising but it’s actually Brad Jones holds the best finish result for BJR at Sandown …  so we need to change that this weekend!!

Remember, you can follow me on social media for updates across the event.
