Supercars season 2021 is about to kick off and I’m all set for another big year with Brad Jones Racing.
“For the first time in my racing career, Supercars are starting the season with a single driver race at Bathurst. I’m really excited to get back there because any time you get to race at Mount Panorama is special. But personally, it is upsetting that we’re not going to my home race, the Adelaide 500.
The preparation for our first event has been pretty full on. Two 250-kilometre races to start a championship is always super tough mentally and physically. The Adelaide street circuit had its own unique challenges, but Mount Panorama is on a whole other level. You have to treat this place with a lot of respect every time you go out on track.
I’ve had a busy pre-season of training in Melbourne and have done a lot of work with my BJR engineers to make sure we come out firing.
We are picking up where we left off last year, with the championship finale at the Bathurst 1000 in October. We’ve worked on rectifying our issues with the steering rack and the other mechanical gremlins that impacted our results at the Great Race.
I feel that Brad and myself and everyone on Car 8 has been begging for a decent result in any way, shape, or form over the last few years. I’m definitely excited to get back there and have another crack. The weather forecast looks a little dicey, with some showers predicted across the weekend, so that could throw another element into the mix!
We recently revealed the striking red and black R&J Batteries livery, which will stay on Car 8 for the whole season. They supported us during a tough 2020 so it’s great that they’ve continued for 2021.
It’s also a pretty special round because I’ll be wearing a helmet painted by two Guide Dog puppies! I’ve teamed up with Guide Dogs Australia to raise awareness for them, and after the weekend I’ll be auctioning this one-of-a-kind helmet to raise money for their programs.
I’ve had plenty of people ask and yes, it has Nelson’s actual paw prints on the back! He is still riding with me even if he can’t physically join me on tour this season”.
Follow Nick on social media for updates across the event (and plenty of puppy helment pics).
