“This weekend I head back to my ‘home’ round at The Bend Motorsport Park, for the OTR SuperSprint. I’m approaching this event as a chance to reset on our championship after the shocking start to the season we’ve had.
It’s been a combination of poor qualifying and silly mishaps to date, so now I just want to get through the weekend with a solid bank of points.
The most important thing to me is to get my qualifying mojo back. I feel like we’ve been a bit weak in that area this year. If I qualify well, I’m confident I can achieve a top 5 finish in the races. That is the goal.
The key will be looking after the tyres. Last year we were really fast at The Bend but absolutely destroyed our tyres in the races, so the end results weren’t reflective of our true pace. As a team, it’s crucial to make sure that the tyre life is good and we’re not delaminating the soft tyre. Again, a sprint round means tyres are the focus; when you use them and when you don’t, and to pull some punches.
My aim is to get some momentum back in Car 8 and keep improving. I’d love to stand on the podium at my home round, and especially with friends and family attending the event. Treating my mum to a trophy on Mother’s Day would be the dream, but as a contingency, I have organised a pretty cool gift. Keep your eyes peeled on the telecast on Sunday before the last race to see what my mum gets for Mother’s Day!”
