Nick Percat Newcastle 500 Preview

This weekend we face two 250-kilometre races around the streets of Newcastle to cap off the championship.

I’m a big fan of street circuits, and last year on debut the Newcastle track threw up plenty of challenges. I had two top ten finishes there last year, so obviously I’m hoping for more of the same this time around. I’d love to make Sunday’s Top Ten Shootout because having that circuit all to myself for one lap is pretty cool.

Overall in the season so far I’ve had 17 top ten finishes and 2 podiums. My goal is to have a clean weekend and consolidate tenth place in the Driver’s Championship. I’m 156 points behind Rick Kelly, so it’s probably a long shot to get to 9th, but a top ten finish would be a solid result.

As a team we also need a good weekend in terms of the Team’s Championship battle.  BJR are currently sitting fourth, and it’s a close battle with Walkinshaw Andretti United and Erebus. If we have a mega weekend we may just be able to snatch third away from Tickford Racing, which would move us a long way up the pit lane order for next year.

My car is running a very bold Timken livery for this final round. It’s a cool metallic orange colour that will change colour with the reflections in the sun and shadows. Make sure you keep an eye for it on social media, and across the weekend on track too.

Remember, you can follow Nick on social media for updates across the event.
