“I’m pumped to be in the Northern Territory for the Merlin Darwin Triple Crown this weekend. I love the atmosphere and warmer climate of the Top End, and the track itself is one of my favourites on the calendar.
We go back to a three-day format for the first time since the opening round at Mount Panorama. It’s great; we have lots of signing sessions and get to spend heaps of time with the fans, and it has a vibe of the pre-Covid days which is really good.
The big difference for this event is the introduction of the Dunlop super soft tyre. We’ve never driven on this compound before so I can’t wait to see how it goes on the #8 R&J Batteries Commodore.
My qualifying average this year is 16.1 so we’re focused on improving in that area, as I’ve proved before that if I can start higher up on the grid I can genuinely fight for podiums.
Last year I got a podium result here and I’ve generally fared well here in the past, so the confidence is high and we are all raring to go after the last event was postponed.
Overall I’m aiming for a solid weekend where we manage the super-soft tyre successfully, and I would love to come away with a trophy for the team.”
