Hey everyone,
Its Bathurst week! The best week in Australian motorsport and a week every driver dreams of being involved in. Its our grand final and the race that has the world watching. This year’s event looks to be as difficult as ever, the weather is looking like it will be very wet all weekend and create some big moments for us in the driver’s seat.
This year I am teaming up with the ultimate co driver, Warren Luff. Luffy has been with the WAU family for a long time and he has been on the podium for WAU multiple times. He is a great person to have around the team with the amount of experience he has at Bathurst, so far Luffy has made my life very easy. We are lucky that we do not need to change the seat insert or belts, Luffy just jumps in the car and fits perfectly.
Leading up to Bathurst and the back part of the season I have shifted my training focus to longer sessions and a lot more cardio based. The 2 weeks leading into Bathurst myself and my trainer did a little training camp which involved 18km trail runs, big swim sessions and anything else he could dream up. Some days I would be training up to 5 hours a day. Its actually been a relief to get to Bathurst and have a break from the training!
Bathurst is such a special event for the Walkinshaw Andretti United team, we come to the event as the defending champions and excited to tackle the mountain again. The preparation level this team goes to is unbelievable. We basically have new cars for this event. I have never seen a group pull together so much and get so excited to get to Bathurst. As I driver this gives you massive confidence leading into the event.
For me, I am hoping to continue my good run at Bathurst. I have been lucky enough to have 3 podiums up here and numerous top 7 finishes. It’s a race where anything can happen and generally will happen! I am very excited to be back in car 2 at Bathurst, car 2 at Bathurst has such a rich history for the Walkinshaw family and I would love to deliver another big result onboard this car. Its also the last time I will drive a Holden at Bathurst which is a weird feeling but also very exciting.
As usual you can tune into the coverage on Fox Sports 506 and catch up with how I am going across my social media pages!
Cheers Nick
