Hey everyone,
It’s hard to believe we are back in Adelaide for the Valo Adelaide 500! I still remember the night that the event was cancelled, and the motorsport community was in disbelief that one of the most iconic motorsport events in Australia was gone.
Thankfully for the motorsport fans, the Valo Adelaide 500 is back, and it looks to be bigger and better then ever! I’m personally extremely excited to get on track and drive at my home race. The Adelaide race is one that I have been at since I was basically born, Dad took me to the Formula 1 in Adelaide in 1988 and since then I have been to every single race in Adelaide. From when it was the Formula one to Supercars. Its very cool to think I was once the kid climbing a tree to see the track better to becoming a racing driver and actually winning the Adelaide 500 in 2016!
As exciting it is to be back on the streets of Adelaide its also going to be a slightly sad weekend. It’s the last weekend we will see Holden race cars on the grid and the last time Walkinshaw Andretti united and myself will race them. I have only ever raced a Holden Supercar and the Holden brand runs through my family. My Great Grandad, Grandad and Dad all worked at the Holden plant in Adelaide building the road cars, so it will be a big weekend farewelling the Holdens for WAU and my family.
The cars take on a different look for this weekend, we are racing with a farewell livery to Holden and the cars look absolutely awesome. I think the fans will love the look of the 2 WAU cars and I am certainly proud to be driving car 2 for the final time with Holden.
The format this weekend is the traditional Valo Adelaide 500. We have the top 10 shootouts and long races Saturday and Sunday and in true Adelaide 500 form, the weather is turning it on, and it looks like we are in for some great weather for the fans, not so good for the drivers! It will be a brutal race inside the car with the warmer temperatures.
My goal for this weekend is to finish on a high. It has been a difficult year for me and character building. The speed has been there, but the final results have not. If I can end the weekend with 2 great results in the top 10 in both races, I will be happy. The dream is to stand on the podium here again in Adelaide and finish the year in the best possible way!
As usual you can tune into the coverage on Fox Sports 506 and catch up with how I am going across my social media pages!
Cheers Nick
