Morris Finance & Geelong Cats join forces to fight hunger
Geelong and Essendon will come together on Friday night at GMHBA Stadium for its annual Powercor Country Festival blockbuster.
Established in 2016, the Powercor Country Festival is aimed at highlighting and celebrating the role regional and rural Victorians play in our community.
The past 18 months has been a challenging period for all Australians due to COVID-19, but particularly in regional and rural areas.
Australia’s largest food relief organisation, Foodbank, has been instrumental during this period of hardship scaling up its operations to meet the unprecedented increase in demand for food relief.
From January to December 2020, Foodbank proudly sourced 48.8 million kilograms of food and groceries which equated to 87.9 million meals for those in critical need of food relief across the country.
More than 40% of all food and groceries distributed by Foodbank nationally goes to regional and rural communities, and with an ever-increasing demand for further support Morris Finance and the Geelong Cats have teamed up to give back to Australians in need.
Morris Finance will be donating $500 to Foodbank, the equivalent of 1000 meals for every goal the Geelong Cats kick against Essendon on Friday night.

“As a National family business, we’re always looking for ways to give back, supporting our local community is a value we as a company take very seriously,” Morris Finance Managing Director Nathan Murray said.
“The work of Foodbank is crucial, and we were thrilled to partner with the Geelong Cats to donate 1000 meals for every goal kicked at the Country Festival match, whilst raising awareness in the fight against hunger on a National scale.
“I am proud and grateful to be in a position where we can support the community during this difficult time by helping our partners bring food to 1 in 5 Australians going without.”
Foodbank Victoria CEO Dave McNamara is grateful for the support of Morris Finance.
“We’re thrilled to once again be involved with the Powercor Country Festival. This event is a chance to celebrate the best of country Victoria. It’s an opportunity to celebrate our partners, supporters and local legends in regional communities,” McNamara said.
“We know firsthand our friends in regional Victoria have had it tough recently. We’ve been there through bushfires, floods, droughts and pandemics delivering vital food relief in times of distress. And we’ll continue to be there to provide food, comfort and support to Victorians doing it tough – no matter where they live.
“We are grateful for the support of Morris Finance at this year’s festival. Their commitment to donate 1000 meals for every goal kicked by the Cat’s this Friday night will assist us to provide much needed meals to those Victorians doing it tough right now.”
So, get behind the Cats at this Friday night’s match and help us make a positive difference in our local communities.
You too can make a difference by donating to Foodbank, every $1 you donate provides two meals for Australian’s in need.
