Morris Donate 40,000 Meals to Foodbank Australia

Morris donate 40,000 Meals to Foodbank to provide food relief for flood affected Australians

For its consecutive year running Morris hosted our Goals to End Hunger initiative on Saturday 19th March, when the Geelong Cats took on Essendon at the MCG.

The initiative saw Morris donate $500, the equivalent of 1000 meals to Foodbank Australia for every goal the Cats scored during the game, with funds raised going directly to those affected by the recent floods in both Northern New South Wales and South Eastern Queensland.

After setting the Geelong Cats the challenge in their season opener match they certainly delivered, with an impressive 11 goal win over Essendon.

Combined with the Cats goal tally, we also held a three quarter time on field kicking competition where we had four participants, including the likes of AFLW Cats player Nina Morrison and Foodbank’s own Helen Bell who added a further 16,000 meals to the total.

With the Cats taking home the 66 point win on the day, it was only afterward that Morris decided to round up the donation increasing the total to $20,000, the equivalent of 40,000 Meals.

“What a day at the MCG, to be able to provide 40,000 meals to those effected by the floods in NSW and QLD on the back of the Saturday’s game, is an outstanding result for everyone involved,” Morris General Manager – Marketing, Tiffany Hunt said.

“With the support of the Geelong Cats and Foodbank, last year we were able to contribute 30,000 meals to Australians, so to have the Cats players contribute an impressive 20 goals to the cause this year it couldn’t have been a better result.”

Foodbank Australia Partnership Manager, Helen Bell is grateful for the support of Morris.

“We were so thrilled to be part of the Powercor Country Festival alongside our national partner Morris for the second year running. The Cats played an incredible game on Saturday which has resulted in a donation of $20,000. Thanks to the support of Morris and the Geelong Cats, Foodbank will be able to provide 40,000 meals for people in need.”

Whether people are dealing with damaged or even destroyed homes or disrupted income due to their place of work being closed, economic hardship is a challenge that remains after the clean-up has taken place. Food relief, for as long as it’s needed, builds resilience helping people to get back on their feet.

With so many hardworking Australians seeking food relief for the first time, finding themselves in situations they never anticipated, the 40,000 meals will provide much needed relief to those affected.

You too can make a difference by donating to Foodbank, every $1 you donate provides two meals for Australian’s in need.
