Morris Finance Brand Ambassador, Jaxon Evans sits comfortably in second position on the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup ladder, after claiming his third podium finish from four rounds. Hear from Jaxon as he recaps his performance at the Hungaroring.

“What a season we are having in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. I have recently returned to my European base in Germany after round 4 of the championship at the Hungaroring in Budapest, Hungary.
Coming off the back of our first race win in the 2021 season last time out (Austria GP) the focus was again to be fighting at the pointy end of the field and to reduce the points gap to our Championship rival. Motivation and confidence was high heading into the weekend, as we conducted a successful test a few weeks prior to our arrival.
However, we quickly found out in the free practice on Friday afternoon that conditions, lap times and the car balance were extremely different, this was due to the ‘Pirelli’ tyre compound that the Formula 1 Championship uses. Finishing the session P8 was well below our expectations.
The Infamous Hungarian weather was also on show for Saturday’s qualifying session, with track temperatures around 51°C we knew there was only an opportunity for 2 ‘push laps’ on each set of tyres during the session. Some small setup changes overnight and careful data analysis allowed for us to make a big improvement, qualifying P2 and on the front row for Sunday’s race.
I was particularly happy with the performance, as I felt that maybe we weren’t in the position to challenge for pole position leading into the session.
Sunday’s 15 lap race was far from easy, an even get away saw us enter turn 1 in second place and some contact from behind allowed our main championship rival to squeeze up alongside and ultimately make a move, demoting us to third on track at the time.
A calculated race saw us cross the finish line third and on the podium, after having to manage higher than expected ‘tyre pressure’ as well as an angry pack of drivers behind us. We were then elevated to second, after the post-race technical checks saw the race winner disqualified for not meeting fuel regulations.
Although we claimed our third podium in four rounds, it was a bittersweet day. We had the goal of decreasing the championship point deficit to the overall leader, but it stretched out by another 5 points. All in all, we cannot be too unpleased, as we still sit second in the championship heading into a 3-week break.”
Up next Jaxon heads to Belgium for Race 5 at Spa Francorchamps, 27th-29th August.
