Geelong Cats Inner Sanctum Training Session
As part of the Peak Performance Program, selected Morris staff members including Tiana Kaberry, William Ray-Blunt, Lachlan Ower, Josephine Giles, Jackson Lever and Abby Christiaans headed down to GMHBA Stadium to have an Inner Sanctum Training Experience with the Geelong Football Club.
The training session was run by Geelong Cats Champions, Tom Hawkins, Patrick Dangerfield, Zach Tuohy and Mitch Duncan as well as premiership coach Chris Scott. The session commenced with some signing and photos, followed by some drills including the speed ladder, agility poles, hand ball drill and a goal kicking competition.
The goal kicking competition involved a series of different set shots from different spots within the 50m zone, using a variety of different kicking styles such as the torpedo and snap kick. While there were a few wild and questionable kicks…clearly due to the swirly conditions, the winners of the goal kicking competition were Lachlan in 1st place, Will in 2nd place followed by Tiana in 3rd place. Rumor has it that Zach Touhy complimented our very own Lachlan Ower’s ‘torp’.
The session concluded with some questions for the players and some behind the scenes of the training facilities for the AFL and AFLW as well as a guided tour of the football department, with Geelong Cats CEO himself, Steve Hocking.
Whilst GMHBA stadium is quite impressive from up in the stands, it’s the state-of-the-art training and rehabilitation facilities that are under the stadium which are truly remarkable.
It was a once in a lifetime experience for the group to be so up close and personal with the Cats and one to be remembered and talked about for years to come. Although no one in the group has been recruited at this stage, everyone had an absolute ‘ball’!
