MFL Sports Ambassador Nick Percat Newcastle 500 Preview

Hi Everyone,

There’s a huge amount of buzz around the Coates Hire Newcastle 500 – the final event of the season - and rightly so. I’m tipping this newest event is going to quickly become one of the most popular races on the calendar and it will be an epic way to cap off the Supercars season.

I was fortunate to visit Newcastle last week and I did a track walk with the BJR team to get an understanding of the circuit layout, its characteristics and what the track does and doesn’t have. What I can tell you from this is we are definitely in for a big weekend.

This circuit has everything you want a street track to offer. It’s fast, narrow and unforgiving. The commitment needed from the driver to get the perfect lap will be massive. Not to mention the images we’ll get from the Newcastle back drop will be amazing!

I have also been lucky enough to get the Newcastle track on my racing simulator. I’m not sure how many of my competitors have this, but I’ve already cut hundreds of laps around the track. BJR did a bit of groundwork with a simulator developer and managed to get the track before it was released, so it’s been a fun few days learning the track!

This weekend Car 8 is running with backing from Timken. The car looks awesome and you won’t miss me in the bright Timken orange! I’m an ambassador for Timken so it is very fitting to have the company also supporting BJR for the final round.

While winning the inaugural Newcastle race is on every driver’s radar, I’m also looking forward to putting on a good show for all the Coates Hire guests. I’ve been a part of the Coates Hire family since 2011 and it’s great to fly the flag for them and this weekend as naming rights sponsor of the Coates Hire Newcastle 500.

In between events, I’ve been training as hard as ever to make sure I am physically ready for this event. Two 250km races around this circuit are going to be seriously tough. The amount of gear changes, brake bias changes and driving inputs is going to be seriously high. There is no rest around this demanding street circuit, and I know that just like every other driver I can’t wait to hit the track for the first time this Friday!
